I have many friends in the region still feeling the effects of Hurricane Ike.
In situations like this, I certainly feel helpless other than to listen to the various reports, and point to good sources of information, which I was doing on Friendfeed and elsewhere throughout the night.
The raw footage now coming in from Texas, parts of Louisiana and elsewhere is not pretty.
Note: At this hour (11 AM ET Saturday), the National Weather Service is still issuing ombinous warnings for the coastal communities for high tide and what will result. It’s far from over.
Having been through a Cat-3 and a weather ‘hobbyist’ (and occasional storm chaser) for as long as I can remember, I can remember vividly what it can look like afterward.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all, especially those who are still being rescued.
The first responders, Coast Guard, State and Local Police and Fire Departments, local employees and officials and those who weathered the storm simply because ‘they thought they could help’ are the heroes.
It’s always a shame when it takes a disaster to pull everyone together, as has been repeated so many times.
Kudos to the many that tried to do what they could on the Internet, Radio, TV, and other media.
@hurricaneike on Twitter @accuweather in Twitter and Plurk, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC …. numerous others… and particularly the staff at KHOU-TV Houston (including Dr Neil Frank who used to head the National Hurricane Center and has the ‘local trust’ of many). They kept now only the locals continuously up-to-date, county by county, but the world tuned in with an uninterrupted feed on the Internet, by satellite on DirecTv, and on numerous radio stations throughout Texas. For many, the only way they had to get information.
The media really pulled together on this one as did MANY volunteers, and continue to, to put the people first.
I’m not alone. We’re watching and continuing to think about all of you.

Clean the fan on those desktops. If possible, open it and get the dustbunnies out.
Chances are they’re a complete mess!

Where ever you are today. Take a moment to remember all of those who lost their lives, and the many, many heroes of September 11, 2001.
Laura Fitton (possibly known better to many as @pistachio) launched her new company blog the other night on, where else, Twitter.
This is a must-read microblogging success story.
The new site is here
OK gang … When did Google unleash this Flash version of SearchMash ?? (Was I asleep?)
Quick post to test the FF plug-in. Disregard.
Since emerging from 5 years of in-house SEO last year (and simultaneously launching SEO and Tech Daily) many of you have had questions. I suppose the biggest one is “Who is this guy?”.
Despite the fact that I have engaged a lot of you directly, and posted my personal thoughts to Friendfeed often, it was time to create a place for the one-liners, thoughts about other stuff, a new bio (which I’m still writing), as well as the podcasts and some video to help you guys (and gals) with limited budgets.
In all honestly, it was also time to get back up to speed with the latest version of WordPress. I’ve been stuck on Blogger and wanted to stay up to speed with WP as well.
When I started SEO and Tech Daily, one of the first posts said that “You’ll sound like you know everything to your boss”. I think , with a little help from a few ghost writers, we’re doing a decent job with that ‘mission statement’.
Kudos go out to those who helped (without knowing it?) to get this blog going. Smashing Magazine is where I found this simple yet ‘neat’ template. It’s an AWESOME resource. The template author’s link is also intact at the bottom of the page. Of course, Glenn Slaven, whose Friendfeed plug-in takes interaction to a new level, and, the crew at Disqus. I’ve raved about Disqus. The comment ‘network’ is onboard here as well.
With SEO and Tech Daily now a year old, it’s time to take things to the next level while accomplishing my own personal goal of working with a few of you at a time, one on one, to help you achieve Search Engine success ….. without the big pricetag. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Using my Search and Social Media ‘addiction’ to help others.
So there you have it. Ego well intact (so far?), welcome to CharlieAnzman.com ! … where you just might find that little SEO tip that puts you over the top.
Grab the feed … and stay tuned!
Update: Friendfeed plug-in is fixed for the next post (Woops!).
